… better and better!
With the U15 South American Championship, the last CONMEBOL competition for national teams on the continent has found its way into the transfer market database. The tenth edition of the tournament, held in Bolivia, was scheduled for the end of 2023, but was postponed by a year due to unforeseen operational circumstances, which is why nations were allowed to compete with U16 players. Paraguay secured the title in October for the third time after 2004 and 2009.
The Albirroja juniors narrowly won the final 4-3 on penalties against Ecuador led by future Dortmund player Justin Lerma, who scored three times in six games. The top scorer was Chile’s Zidane Yañez, who scored five times in six appearances and, together with Paraguay captain Alan Ledesma, was also the tournament’s top scorer.
Venezuela’s Yerwin Sulbarán caused a stir in the 4-1 defeat against Brazil, scoring with a long-range shot from just over 40 meters in the 37th minute. His teammate Yimvert Berroteran scored the fastest goal in the 4-0 win against Ecuador after just 42 seconds. During the duel, Benny Birner (16) from Holstein Kiel, a player from Germany, also made his only short appearance. Speaking of fast: Bolivia’s Denis Quichu was shown yellow for a foul in the 4-0 defeat against Paraguay just ten seconds after kick-off.
