The FIFA is studying to incorporate the new Soccer Video Support (FVS) to replace the VAR. This new system is characterized by being a much more simplified alternative that adds the participation of coaches when reviewing the plays.
This new tool allows the technicians of each team to request the images twice per match. Only if they are not successful in the review do they lose a claim. At the time of request, the referee will be obliged to review the play and, on other occasions, will not be able to decide for himself to consult the images.
The FVS it’s a much simpler system at a technical level; Four or five cameras are needed and there is no video referee. The simplicity of this system is given by its use in minor competitions, which have few human and financial resources. The only human management there is is the mobilization of a technician who calibrates the images so that the general referee can review them.

This new alternative has already been tested in the Blue Stars/FIFA Youth Cup and in the World Cups feminine U20 and U17 where the coaches have been satisfied with the result. The president of the FIFA referees committee, Pierluigi Collina, also approved the introduction of the FVS: “We are only at the beginning of the trial. (…) So far we have not noticed anything unexpected”Pierluigi commented. The president also talked about minimizing the responsibility of the referee and giving it to the coaches: “Giving the referee the opportunity to initiate a review would mean putting additional pressure on him (…)For this reason, “Coaches are responsible for the decision to request a review.”, Collina highlighted.
Soon, FIFA hopes to receive permission from the International Football Association Board (IFAB) to extend it to other competitions. If approved, the alternative would be implemented next year.
