Coach Gerardo Seoane has initially decided on a new number one at Borussia Mönchengladbach with Moritz Nicolas. The 27-year-old will also be between the posts in place of the recovered captain Jonas Omlin (30) in the upcoming Bundesliga game against FC St. Pauli (Sunday, November 24th, 5:30 p.m.).

“We will continue to play with Moritz Nicolas in goal after the international break. Mo has performed consistently well over the last few weeks and has earned it through his performance. Jonas was often out of action last year due to several injuries, he has to get to 100 percent first,” said Seoane, explaining his choice of Nicolas, according to the “Rheinische Post” on Wednesday.

The Swiss Omlin moved from Montpellier to Gladbach in January 2023 as the new goalkeeper for the departing Yann Sommer for 9 million euros. Since then, the veteran has had to take several breaks due to injuries. Omlin is currently recovering from the effects of a tendon injury in his lower leg, but is ready for the Foals’ friendly against Preußen Münster on Friday. In competitive games, however, Nicolas, who has recently been convincing in terms of sport, will be given preference.

The Gladbeck native has been under contract with Borussia since 2015 and has since been loaned out to Union Berlin, VfL Osnabrück, Viktoria Köln and Roda JC Kerkrade. As a Gladbach professional goalkeeper, he kept a clean sheet seven times in 39 appearances and conceded 63 goals – 1.61 per game. Since his arrival, Omlin has played 27 games, kept seven clean sheets and conceded 43 goals – 1.59 per game.
