Without a club since summer

Five center forwards are part of the FC Schalke 04 squad, but the struggling second division team is apparently trying to find further reinforcements for the attack. According to reports from “Foot Mercato” and “Sky”, the Gelsenkirchen-based company has set its sights on a prominent candidate: Anthony Modeste. The ex-Cologne and Dortmund player has been without a club since his contract with Al Ahly ended in the summer and is therefore free of charge.
Accordingly, the Royal Blues are in close contact with the 36-year-old and are said to have even presented him with a first draft contract. However, Modeste has not yet made a decision; the current situation at Schalke is said to be causing the Frenchman to hesitate. With nine points from eleven games, S04 is in third-to-last place.
The storm is actually not the club’s biggest construction site, with 19 hits recorded. However, there is currently a bottleneck due to Emil Højlund’s injury (Achilles tendon), which is why Schalke is examining possible options – and, above all, relying on routine. Modeste has appeared ten times in the 2nd Bundesliga so far and scored six goals. In the Bundesliga there were 85 goals in 209 games. It also reached its highest market value in the German upper house; in 2017 it was worth 20 million euros at Effzeh.
TM community would be happy about Modeste returning to Germany
The rumor was received positively in the Transfermarkt community. User “niclas1994” says: “The need is certainly huge in defense too. Improvements have been called for for a long time. But even if you have a lot of offensive players, one disadvantage is that you don’t have a striker who can then be flanked by the many other players. So it is true that there are great calls for a striker or an actual striker in general. Karaman and Sylla are then seen more on the flanks or as a hanging point.” And “LuLuLu” writes: “Oh, that would be fun and I would like to see Modeste in the 2nd Bundesliga again.”
