Galatasaray will most likely be without top striker Mauro Icardi for the rest of the season. The Süper Lig top scorer suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a damaged meniscus in his right knee in the 3-2 win in the Europa League on Thursday against Tottenham without any opposition, as the Turkish champions announced. The 31-year-old had to be substituted after 85 minutes after making an unfortunate movement with his knee while pressing on Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster. Michy Batshuayi (31) came in for him.
In the current season, Icardi, for whom this is his first serious injury, has six goals and two assists in 14 games. In addition to the Argentine and ex-BVB professional Batshuayi, Galatasaray coach Okan Buruk has top scorer Victor Osimhen (25) and veteran Dries Mertens (37) available for the attack.
