Former Juventus coach Max Allegri had been linked with Manchester United after Erik ten Hag was sacked, but Sporting now confirm they are prepared to pay Ruben Amorim’s €10m release clause instead.
Allegri has for some time been floated as a potential new boss at Old Trafford, especially after he was fired by Juve the day after winning the Coppa Italia in May 2024.
When Ten Hag was formally dismissed on Monday, the reports inevitably pointed towards Allegri as one of the only free agents on the market right now.
Allegri shoved aside by Manchester United

However, Sporting CP released a statement to the Lisbon stock exchange on Tuesday confirming that Manchester United “expressed their interest in recruiting coach Ruben Amorim and have said they are ready to pay the €10m release clause.”
The 39-year-old took over at Sporting in 2020 and has won two Portuguese league titles.
Allegri could in turn be approached as a potential replacement for Amorim at Sporting CP in Lisbon, should the Portuguese coach accept the Manchester United proposal.
