The Italian skier Matilde Lorenzi died this Tuesday at the age of 19 in the city hospital of Bolzano, where she had been admitted the day before after suffering a fall training on a track in the Alps.

Lorenzi was part of the Italian Army sports teamspecialized in speed events, and last season had stood out by winning the Italian absolute ski championship and in the super-G modality in the alpine Sarentino.

The Ministry of Defense has confirmed the death this morning of this skier “national ski promise” and has conveyed his condolences to his loved ones.

Lorenzi, native of Turinwould have turned 20 on November 15, but his life was cut short yesterday, Monday, when he suffered a serious fall while training down one of the slopes at the station. Val Senales, in Alto Adige.

The Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, has also regretted his death and remembered his “crystalline talent broken by destiny.”
