Paul Pogba can plan to return to the pitch after his doping ban has been reduced, but it is still unclear at which club. The contract with Juventus Turin is valid until 2026, but a comeback with the Bianconeri was recently considered unlikely. Instead, there was even talk of plans to dissolve the working paper. Now the Frenchman has spoken out about his future and is even suggesting a salary waiver if he stays.

“I’m willing to give up some money just to play for Juventus again. “I want to come back,” Pogba said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport. The 2018 world champion was last on the field over a year ago in a 2-0 win against Empoli on September 3, 2023. He was subsequently banned until 2027 because of a positive doping test; at the beginning of the month, this ban was reduced to 18 months.

During this suspension, Pogba’s salary was reduced from 10.5 million euros gross (8 million euros net) to the minimum set by the Italian association for contract footballers: around 42,000 euros.

Paul Pogba back for Juventus? Conversation with Thiago Motta “will come”

Pogba will be allowed to train with the team again from January and will be able to start playing from March. There have been no discussions with coach Thiago Motta, who took over from Massimiliano Allegri in the summer. “But this moment will come,” Pogba is sure. “I think I will be ready to train and play with Juve again. I am now a player at Juventus. That’s entirely in my hands. I don’t have to speak, the pitch will speak and then Thiago Motta will judge with his eyes based on what he sees.”

Motta himself had said regarding Pogba’s future: “The club will decide what happens to Pogba. (…) He was a great player. but hasn’t played for a long time. I’m just concentrating on the present.” With Teun Koopmeiners (26), Khéphren Thuram (23) and Douglas Luiz (26), Juventus signed three players in the summer to play in Pogba’s positions. In addition, at the end of last season, Nicolò Fagioli (23) returned from his ban for illegal sports betting. The first question is whether Pogba can agree on continued employment with the 36-time Italian champion.

If that is the case, the 31-year-old, who had a market value of 100 million euros in 2019, promises big things: “It will be a new Pogba: hungrier, wiser and stronger. I’ve been training alone this year and am ready to get back to normal in 2025. I only have one wish: to play football.”
