Álvaro Morata returned to play with the national team this Saturday after missing La Roja’s September matches due to the suspension and some physical discomfort. The captain received the warmth and affection of the enthusiastic stands of the Enrique Roca stadium. And his teammate Baena gave him a ‘capotazo’, an all-out defense against the criticism that the Madrid native has received.

“He has had a difficult time, he is having a hard time, but more so because of the people of the country who beat him up a lot. And I have always said that I wish they could spend a few days, a week with Álvaro so that they know what he suffers, how much he loves football and what a good person he is. And what helps us in the selection and people would change their perception of him”Baena said.

The Villarreal player has insisted that Morata “needs affection; The country and the press have lashed out at him and it makes no sense. He is our captain and when people realize what he is like and everything he does for the group, everything he has felt today (stand support) is good for him to feel loved. It will be difficult for us to have a better captain than him and I hope he continues for many years”.
