Before the second international break of the season, Transfermarkt updated the market values of 118 players in the Portuguese league and gave top striker Viktor Gyökeres (26) an upgrade for the seventh time in a row. The top scorer and currently the leader of the top scorer ranking once again extends his lead as the league’s most valuable footballer over the runner-up to 25 million euros. The market value is also increasing for three German legionnaires around Bright Arrey-Mbi (21).

“Gyökeres has increased in value in this update as he continues to deliver incredible performances here in Portugal,” explains Gonçalo Tristão Santos, area manager of Transfermarkt Portugal, the increase of 5 million euros to 70 million euros. “His first season at Sporting was fantastic and made him one of the most valued players in the world and this season will be no different.” His continued development is likely to fuel speculation about his future.
The Swede has scored twelve goals in eleven games so far, which puts him at the forefront of the most accurate strikers internationally. With its now 70 million euros, Gyökeres also sets the league’s market value record. “His new rating is the highest ever recorded in the Portuguese league and equals that of João Félix before his move to Atlético Madrid in 2019.”
Update Liga Portugal: Benfica talent Silva loses, Sportings Harder on the rise
Benfica talent António Silva (20) is no longer the second most valuable professional in the league after the central defender’s market value fell by 5 million to 40 million euros. “Since the second half of last season, his performances have fallen short of expectations,” says Tristão Santos. “At the beginning of this season he even sat on the bench a few times when Benfica was still managed by Roger Schmidt. But with the return of Bruno Lage he got his regular place back, but he still doesn’t have the same influence on the team as he did in his debut season.
While Silva’s market value curve is downwards, the trend for other talents, such as Danish center forward Conrad Harder, is upwards. The 19-year-old from Sporting, who was signed from Nordsjaelland this summer for 19 million euros, will have his market value approximated to his transfer fee – which means an increase from 14 million to 16 million euros. “Although Harder is only 19 years old, he immediately asserted himself in his new team and scored a goal in his first appearance for Sporting in the league,” said Tristão Santos.
Other youngsters who will be significantly upgraded include the 17-year-old Sporting talent Geovany Quenda, who starts immediately at 15 million euros, and his teammate Zeno Debast. The 20-year-old Belgian central defender climbs by 4 million euros to 22 million euros. In addition, FC Porto’s full-back Martim Fernandes (18) recorded an increase of 50 percent and rose to 6 million euros.
Big plus for Arrey-Mbi – Pohlmann and Mantl are also making gains
One of the biggest increases in the update – in percentage terms – goes to ex-Hannover player Arrey-Mbi, who increased by 140 percent after his move to SC Braga (from 2.5 to 6 million). There is also a plus for two other Germans: Ole Pohlmann (23; from 1.5 to 2.5 million), formerly of BVB, now in the service of Rio Ave FC, and goalkeeper Nico Mantl (24; from 1.2 to 1.5 million), once trained at Unterhaching, now between the posts at FC Arouca. Benfica’s new signing Jan-Niklas Beste (25) remains at 15 million euros, making him one of the top 25 most valuable professionals in the Portuguese league.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
