Borussia Dortmund has extended Julian Ryerson’s contract early. Instead of until 2026, the 26-year-old full-back is now tied to the black and yellow until 2028. Since his €5 million move from Union Berlin in January 2023, the Norwegian has quickly established himself as a top performer in the team, has played 62 games so far (five goals, three assists) and increased his market value from €7.5 million to €20 million . On Saturday there will be a reunion with his former club.
As Sky reports, Ryerson’s new signing will also see his salary increased. According to reports, he previously earned 3 million euros per year, now according to “Bild” it is 5 million euros. In the Dortmund squad, only newcomer Maximilian Beier (21) has been contractually bound to the club longer than the right-footed player (for an overview).

“Immediately after his signing, Julian became a very important part of our team. This applies both on and off the pitch,” explained sports director Sebastian Kehl: “Not everyone probably expected this development after his transfer in the winter of last year, but we knew from the start that Julian with his dynamism, intensity and hunger for success would be an excellent fit for BVB and our virtues. He fully identifies with this club and gives us various sporting options with his versatile profile. We are very happy to be able to retain Julian for the next four years.”
Ryerson added: “It honestly still feels the same as day one. I remain proud and humbled to be part of this club. And I’m just happy that I can continue playing for Borussia Dortmund. I feel comfortable here and enjoy every match day – especially when we play at home. That’s why I’m at BVB and I want to have this feeling for as long as possible.”
