The Scottish Premiership has been dominated by Celtic and Rangers for decades – the last time neither of these two clubs were champions was in 1985, when Aberdeen FC won the title. The Glaswegians are also in the foreground in the market value update from Transfermarkt.co.uk, in which 71 players receive an adjustment. The biggest winner has a history in the Bundesliga.
Of the 15 largest market value increases, twelve are attributable to Celtic and the Rangers – the reigning champions Celtic have nine players increase, so that the squad value increases by 4.85 million to 124.75 million euros. This means that coach Brendan Rodgers’ team is worth 44 million euros more than the Rangers in second place and 17.7 million euros more than the remaining ten clubs combined. The biggest increase is for Celtic newcomer Arne Engels (21), who rises from 9 to 11 million euros after five goals in five games. The former Augsburg player, now the third most valuable player in the league, cost 11 million euros and is an immediate bet at Celtic – including in the Champions League.
In front of him are only his teammates Kyogo Furuhashi (29) and Cameron Carter-Vickers (26), who are still valued at 14 million euros each. With an increase of 1.5 million to 5 million euros, the second largest is for Adam Idah (23), who moved from Norwich City to Celtic for 9.9 million euros. However, the striker has not yet found a regular place, which is why he is only slightly approaching the transfer fee. The former Bayern youngster Nicolas Kühn (24) will be upgraded by 500,000 to 3 million euros as a result of his strong start to the season with six scorers in six league games.
At local rivals Rangers, the market value of six players is increasing: Mohamed Diomandé (22; now €5 million) and Connor Barron (22; now €2 million) will receive the biggest increase, each by one million euros. Striker Danilo (22; now €5 million), who lost his regular place, drops by one million, making him the biggest loser of the update.
In addition, Aberdeen, who have made an excellent start to the season with six wins from six league games, are experiencing a positive market value update. The biggest improvement for the Dons comes in the form of a €300,000 increase in market value for center forward Pape Habib Guèye (25). His market value is now €1m after scoring six goals in his first eight games.
This is how transfer market market values work
The transfer market market values are created taking into account various pricing models as well as a strong involvement of the transfer market community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values cannot generally be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but rather an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this will be the case here listed. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for a detailed definition of market value).
