Union Berlin has extended Tim Skarke’s contract. The Irons confirmed this on Friday. As usual, the new term was not announced. The 28-year-old came to Köpenick on a free transfer from SV Darmstadt 98 in the summer of 2022, but was unable to establish himself. Loans to Schalke and his former club followed. Skarke impressed with the Lilies last season with eight goals and two assists despite relegation from the Bundesliga, and his market value rose from 1.2 million to 3 million euros.
“With Tim, we are tying a player to us who shows full commitment every day. It doesn’t matter whether in training or in a game. With his speed, flexibility and finishing ability, he is also an important part of our squad and also leads the way in the dressing room. We are pleased that we have reached an agreement and can count on Tim,” said sporting director Horst Heldt, who had blocked interested parties such as Mainz 05 in the summer.
Skarke, who played in all matches in the new season but was only in the starting eleven once, added: “I am pleased that Union is planning with me and that we will continue to go our way together. The last two years have not always been easy for me, so I am all the more optimistic now that we will have a successful season. I am eager to give it my all and want to help the team with good performances.”
