The Spanish LaLiga has published the salary caps for the new season. The figures are intended to reflect the maximum expenditure that clubs can make during a season and are a decisive factor in terms of personnel planning. At FC Barcelona, after years of savings, there has been a significant increase in the maximum possible expenditure, but this does not mean that things are relaxing.

The Catalans’ salary has risen from 270 million euros to 426 million euros, overtaking Atlético Madrid, which has been downgraded from 311 million to 296 million. Real Madrid is still at the top with 755 million euros (previously 727 million euros), which can easily pay Kylian Mbappé’s salary, and not only because Toni Kroos has retired. In addition to the players’ salaries, the salaries of all club employees are also included in the upper limits. The same applies to the clubs’ reserve teams and youth teams. The upper limit for each club is linked to its income.

For Barcelona, the significant increase in maximum possible expenditure does not mean that the financial problems of recent years have been overcome. New signing Dani Olmo could only be called up due to the injury of the already registered Andreas Christensen and a special permit for the games in LaLiga; further income is needed in the winter transfer window to register the Spaniard for the second half of the season.

FC Sevilla, which is also financially struggling and was fourth in the league last year with 169 million euros, is at the bottom of the salary cap. The Andalusians’ salary cap for the new season is just 2.5 million euros. Due to the tense situation at the club, key players such as Youssef En-Nesyri (27) and Lucas Ocampos (30) were sold in the summer, and contracts of Sergio Ramos (38) and others were not renewed. It is important to note that the LaLiga cap is only a recommendation. Clubs can also spend more, but then have to expect fines and loss of points.
