The transfer drama surrounding Teun Koopmeiners has come to a happy end for Juventus Turin. The attacking midfielder is joining the Old Lady for a transfer fee that is again above the 50 million euro mark. At the beginning of August, the 26-year-old refused to train at Atalanta Bergamo in order to force a transfer. Now Juve presented him along with the high transfer fee that is due for the deal. This is also good news for AZ Alkmaar.

According to the club, Juventus will pay a transfer fee of 51.3 million euros to their league rivals over four years. Bonus payments can add up to 6 million euros. This summer, the Italian record champions paid a transfer fee of over 50 million euros for midfielder Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa) and have already spent a total of around 160 million euros this season – currently the seventh highest figure in world football. Koopmeiners has a contract until 2029.

Koopmeiner’s training club AZ Alkmaar, where the 21-time national player learned to play football since childhood, will also benefit significantly from the move. The Eredivisie club had agreed an agreement with Atalanta in the event of a resale. AZ will reportedly receive a ten to twenty percent share of the profit that La Dea generates from the Juventus deal. Three years ago, the club received 14 million euros from Atalanta, making a profit of 37.3 million euros and a share for Alkmaar of between 3.73 million and 7.46 million euros.
