BVB sports director Sebastian Kehl has been cautious but not dismissive about the departure of Youssoufa Moukoko (19). Reports in Spain and Germany (including “Sky”) have recently announced a general agreement between Real Betis Sevilla and the striker, whose development in Dortmund has clearly stalled.
“The transfer window is still open for a few days. We will of course continue to hold talks,” said Kehl after BVB’s match against 1. FC Phönix Lübeck in the first round of the DFB Cup in Hamburg. The official stressed: “There have been no decisions yet. So we’ll wait and see what happens next.”
Moukoko was not part of the Dortmund squad that beat the regional league team 4-1. However, this decision had nothing to do with the transfer rumors surrounding the young professional, explained coach Nuri Şahin. “That is not my job. I make sporting decisions. In both cases (Moukoko and Salih Özcan, ed.) it was a sporting decision,” said the 35-year-old after his competitive debut as the new head coach. “The boys trained well. But I can only take a certain number with me. It just affected the two boys.”
BVB departure approaches: Moukoko on loan to Sevilla with obligation to buy?
According to consistent media reports, the potential buyer from Seville has submitted an offer. A loan to Real Betis is being discussed, with an obligation to buy being very likely. A transfer fee of 15 million euros is said to be in question for the Cameroonian-born player, who played in two matches for the German national team. The talks are well advanced, it is said.
Due to the oversupply in Dortmund’s offensive, the attacker, who first trained at FC St. Pauli and from 2016 at BVB, has little chance of playing for longer. Most recently, the Westphalians brought in national player Maximilian Beier (21) from TSG Hoffenheim after the departure of Niclas Füllkrug (31) to West Ham United (all BVB transfers in the overview). Olympique Marseille are also said to have been interested in Moukoko, as are Stade Reims and Nottingham Forest. He still has a contract in Dortmund until June 2026. The left-footer still wants to leave BVB, which was vehemently made public by his agent Patrick Williams.
