All Bundesliga clubs have together earned 423.41 million euros from player departures this summer. 30 million euros of this went to Brajan Gruda, who became the record sale at FSV Mainz 05 with his move to Brighton and pushed Abdou Diallo off the top spot after six years. But the 20-year-old is not the only one to set a new club record in this transfer period in the German top flight.
1. FC Heidenheim also recently recorded an unprecedented transfer fee when it sold Jan-Niklas Beste to Benfica. The Portuguese club paid 8 million euros for the services of the top provider, a million more than Borussia Mönchengladbach paid for Tim Kleindienst, who had already set a club record.
FC Bayern and FC Augsburg should also be mentioned here – under certain conditions. The Munich team received €45 million for the transfer of Matthijs de Ligt, which puts the central defender on a par with Robert Lewandowski and Lucas Hernández. The deal with Manchester United also includes bonuses of €5 million, which could see the Dutchman displace the other two from the top spot in the future. At FCA, Abdul Rahman Baba is the record departure at €26 million, a sum made up of a fixed €20 million and €6 million in additional payments. If you only look at the basic transfer fee, Ermedin Demirovic recently ranked ahead of the Ghanaian with his €21 million signing from VfB Stuttgart. Including bonuses, the new Swabian could still equal Baba’s sum.
In a comparison of all 18 Bundesliga clubs, only Borussia Dortmund has exceeded the 100 million euro mark. Since 2017, Ousmane Dembélé has been at the top with his move to FC Barcelona. While he initially brought BVB 105 million euros, this amount has increased over the years to 135 million euros. Another interesting fact: Even with their second most expensive sale in history – Jude Bellingham’s 103 million euros last year – the Black and Yellows would outbid the other 17 clubs. Meanwhile, Werder Bremen has the longest record in terms of record sales across the league with the sale of Diego to Juventus Turin for 27 million euros in 2009/10.
