Bundesliga newcomers FC St. Pauli have presented their third new signing, right-back Fin Stevens from FC Brentford. The Hamburg team did not provide any information on the length of the contract or the transfer fee, but according to information from the “Hamburger Morgenpost”, the club is expected to transfer significantly less than the previously speculated sum of 1 million euros to the island.
The 21-year-old Welshman, who has two international caps to his name, played 43 games in League One last season for loan club Oxford United. The right-footer has 14 Premier League minutes in the 2021/22 season. “By signing Fin Stevens, we are expanding our defensive wing positions and are thus responding to the bottlenecks at the end of last season. With his dynamism, Fin can influence the game at both ends of the pitch and is very determined and, despite his young age, very composed,” said sporting director Andreas Bornemann.
Coach Alexander Blessin added: “Fin prefers to play on the right side, but can also be used on the left. As a full-back, he has a lot of offensive drive and pull into depth. He anticipates well and goes into tackles courageously and aggressively, then quickly switches after winning the ball.” Stevens himself explained: “I’m really looking forward to taking the step into one of the strongest leagues in the world at FC St. Pauli. After very good discussions with those responsible at the club, I am convinced that this move has come at the right time and that my skills will fit in very well with the team’s style of play. Now I’m really excited to get to know my teammates, the fans and the Millerntor Stadium.”
