In the last market value update in Serie A, Malick Thiaw was given a minus for the first time in his career. The 22-year-old central defender, who has been listed in the TM database since the beginning of June at 25 million instead of 30 million euros, is under contract with AC Milan until 2027, but could make the jump to England. According to the editorial team of Gianluca Di Marzio, Newcastle United is once again showing interest in signing the former Schalke player.

The Magpies have not yet made an official offer, but the Premier League club has the three-time German international on its radar. The 2001-born player is very popular with the new sporting director Paul Mitchell. So far, Newcastle has only had to pay a high transfer fee for one new signing: left-back Lewis Hall (19) joined from Chelsea on a permanent basis for 33 million euros after a previous loan. This is offset by transfer income of 76.2 million euros.

Thiaw moved from Gelsenkirchen to the Rossoneri in 2022 for €8.8 million and has played 54 games since then. Around the turn of the year, the defender missed 15 competitive games due to injury. Milan finished the season in second place, coach Stefano Pioli left the club after five years. “The last few months at Milan under Pioli were also characterized by an unusual defensive weakness that had hardly been seen under him for years. Virtually every player in the defensive unit was noticed more often for bad mistakes. Thiaw never really got back into shape after his long injury and did not make it into the European Championship squad,” explained Jatin Dietl, Area Manager Italy at Transfermarkt.

If Thiaw goes to Newcastle, he would become the fifth German professional in the club’s history. Goalkeeper Loris Karius (31) was most recently under contract with the seventh-placed club last season.
