French midfielder Tanguy Ndombélé is leaving Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer five years after his 62 million euro transfer. On Thursday, the 27-year-old was presented as a new signing at OGC Nice. As the club announced, his contract with Spurs, which was originally valid until 2025, was terminated beforehand. The former international signed for two years in Nice.
Tottenham made Ndombélé their record purchase in 2019 and to this day this mark has not been reached in the club’s history. However, the transfer turned out to be a misunderstanding: Ndombélé made 91 appearances by January 2022 and contributed ten goals and nine assists, after which he was loaned to his previous club Olympique Lyon, SSC Napoli and most recently Galatasaray. While his market value peaked at €65 million when he arrived in London, it is now only €8 million. This puts him in the midfield of his new club’s squad. Ndombélé will take part in the Europa League with Nice and could face Spurs, among others.
